With all due respect, I don't understand why you are quoting Martin Luther king so much. Who do you serve, the Lord Jesus Christ or a dead man? Instead of quoting a dead sinner, why not open up God's word (The Bible) and see the truths for yourself that you fail to see and believe? Pray for wisdom and understanding.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5

God bless

It shocked me too Loraena. It was a lot of comments like "abuse is bad, but the case involving Tina Anderson wasn't abuse." I disagree with that line of thinking entirely. What happened to Tina was horrendous. It was abuse.

Honestly, I think the fall out is directly linked with an allegiance to Chuck Phelps. The simple link to that case made the rest of what I said irrelevant to some.

Thank you for the support and encouragement!

Thanks for posting this, Keri. I find myself a bit incredulous to read that this post resulted in fall-out. Ditto 100% on what Mari said. =) Scripture is very clear on defending the defenseless.

Finally a Christian with enough wisdom to call Tripp out.

I have another question about his teaching. He claims that his method of discipline is from the Bible. He describes an elaborate spanking ritual that includes taking the child's pants down, spanking with the hand, and a half dozen other steps. I can find none of these steps in the Bible. In fact, the verses that he quotes for using the rod say something quite different. The Hebrew word for rod in these verses in Proverbs is SHEBET - a club, staff, or rod. And the verb is not "spank", it is strike: to hit sharply, as with the hand, the fist, or a weapon.

If these "rod" verses are commandments, they are very harsh. However, they are not the first, nor the last harsh commandments in the Bible. I am thankful that Christ's work on the cross has freed us from the harsh commandments found in the OT.
